Last update: 08 November, 2022

Warts are small lumps that grow on the neck, feet or hands. Although they do not pose any health concerns, warts can be unsightly and can make sufferers feel self-conscious. They often clear up without treatment, but if they are uncomfortable and causing embarrassment, removing them is preferable.

Caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), warts are infectious and can spread by close bodily contact.

This article gives you four different natural home remedies that will remove warts on the skin.

Remedy 1: Garlic

Not only is garlic a useful and versatile addition to your daily diet but studies prove that it is also 100% effective as a treatment to removing warts.

Applied as a paste directly to your skin, garlic will remove unsightly warts and also prevent their spread and reappearance.

Simply prepared, crush a clove of garlic until a paste has formed and apply directly to the skin. It’s best to do this before you go to bed and to cover the area with a bandage. Clean and throughly dry the area each morning until the wart falls off. This method can take four weeks to achieve results so be patient and persevere.

Remedy 2: adhesive tape

If the smell of garlic isn’t for you then this method is a good alternative and works especially well with small children. Place a suitably sized piece of adhesive tape over the wart for a week. At the end of the seven days, remove the tape and soak the area before scrubbing well with a pumice stone or emery board. This will remove the dead skin. Dry well and the repeat the process by applying a new piece of tape. It can take two to three months to be effective but is an effective method.

Remedy 3: banana skin

The skin of a banana contains salicylic acid which is effective in drying out a wart. Take a small piece of banana peel and apply the wet side to the wart, securing with a bandage or piece of medical tape. For best results, do this at night. It can take up to 1-2 months to completely heal, but you should see visible changes within a couple of weeks.

Remedy 4: lemon juice

Due to its high acidic levels lemon juice helps break down a wart and is an effective method for removing these unsightly skin tags. Apply directly to the area 3-4 times a day using a cotton ball. After several weeks, the wart will dry out, turns black and fall off.
