The pancreas is the forgotten organ of the body. We don’t take any notice of it until something goes wrong! We all need to learn a little more that humble yet essential gland that is located behind the stomach and which secretes essential juices that allow us to digest food. Here we give you some tips on how you can take care of your pancreas so that it can continue to take care of you!

How to take care of your pancreas

1. Eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables

Yet another reason to pack these amazing vegetables into your diet. You will have certainly read about the huge benefits of broccoli for preventing many kinds of cancer, heart disease and strokes but recent studies also suggest that eating this bright green vegetable (along with Brussel’s sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage) is incredibly beneficial for protecting your pancreas. Eat a portion of steamed broccoli twice a week for maximum effects. However, if you have thyroid problems, eating cruciferous vegetables is not recommended.

3. Give up unhealthy food

Here is a recap of what we all know is unhealthy food: fried food, processed food, refined flour, sugar, convenience food and carbonated drinks. We eat them for a reason – they are easy and cheap to get hold of and satisfy hunger pangs quickly with minimum effort. However, there is a long term price to be paid for this short term convenience and it is your pancreatic health – among many other health problems. Foods that are high in fat directly damage your pancreas. Excessive alcohol consumption is also a problem.

4. Detoxify your pancreas

The pancreas synthesise essential enzymes that help you digest food. So when toxins from a poor diet saturate it, you will start to experience hormonal imbalances, which could, in the long run, cause diabetes. Detoxify your pancreas by drinking 10 glasses of liquid a day – some suitable juices and infusions for the pancreas are detailed below. The liquid will help renew your body and detoxify the pancreas.

At the same time, follow a diet high in antioxidants (plenty of fruit like oranges, kiwi, mangos and strawberries).

5. Juices to detox your pancreas

Detox your pancreas with the following natural juices. Your pancreas will be in great working order and will function in the way that it should. Most experts feel that you should drink vegetable juices in the afternoon or with your meals and fruit juices in the morning. Always try to drink them on an empty stomach and you should not drink anything until after a half an hour after. The golden rule is: never add sugar to them!

Cabbage, carrot, and lettuce Juice

  • A cup of Brussels’s sprouts (steamed)
  • A glass of carrot juice
  • Half a glass of water
  • A celery stalk

Put it all in the blender so that it mixes well and then sip it slowly. It’s so simple!

Artichoke and aloe vera juice

  • A cup of aloe vera juice (the pulp from the middle, which is the most gelatinous part)
  • A tender artichoke heart (pre-cooked)
  • Juice from half a lemon
  • Half a cup of hot water

Place all of the ingredients in the blender so that you get a well-blended mixture. You should get a warm juice, that will have a thick consistency which is really great for detoxifying your pancreas. Drink it with your lunch every other day.

Papaya and linseed juice

  • A large slice of papaya
  • A tablespoon of powdered linseed
  • Half a glass of water
  • Three almonds

It is great for drinking in the morning and is very easy to make. All you have to do is blend all the ingredients well along with the half a glass of water. Drink it little by little every morning and you will not only get the proper nutrients to start the day, but rather a perfect way to keep your pancreas healthy.
