7 Benefits of Consuming Cinnamon and Honey

Last update: 06 August, 2015

The combination of honey and cinnamon has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. It is also used in Ayurveda healing – a system of Indian medicine that was established 5000 years ago. Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices known to mankind and honey’s popularity has continued throughout history. Cinnamon contains essential oils and honey contains enzymes that produce hydrogen peroxide making them excellent “anti-microbial” foods with the ability to help stop the growth of bacteria and fungi. They can both be used as food preservatives due to their effective antimicrobial elements.

In Ayurvedic medicine, honey is known as ‘Yogavahi’, which means “the carrier of the healing values of the herbs to the cells and tissues”. When it is combined with another substance (such as a spice) in a formulation, the special quality of honey enhances the medicinal qualities of that formulation. It is thought that honey allows it to reach the deeper tissues in the body more effectively. Here is a selection of some of the health benefits of this ancient formulation.

At night, before you go to bed, drink the same mixture. You will soon notice that you are losing a significant amount of weight. If you keep up the habit, the formulation will help to prevent fat from accumulating in your body. However, to get the best results, you must also stick to a balanced diet and get plenty of exercise (a minimum of 30 minutes a day).

The antimicrobial properties of this mixture certainly work on your skin. Pimples and blackheads are caused by tiny bacteria infecting our skin. If we can keep the populations of these bacteria under control we can fight existing acne and prevent new breakouts from occurring. The anti-inflammatory properties reduce swelling and redness – improving the appearance of the skin.

Mix three tablespoons of honey with one of cinnamon. Apply a scoop of this to affected areas of skin at bedtime. Rinse off with warm water the next day. You can repeat this until you get rid of all of those small imperfections on your skin.
