Benefits and Uses of Oxygenated Water
Oxygenated water, also known as hydrogen peroxide, is a little beauty when it comes to being useful around the house. We can’t wait to tell you about all the things it can do for you! Here they all are!
11 Uses and benefits of oxygenated water
Hydrogen peroxide (HP) destroys all bacteria and pathogens in a matter of seconds. That’s why it’s great for cleaning cuts, braises and wounds. It won’t damage your skin in any way, and it doesn’t destroy the good bacteria like most disinfectants available on the market. Always use the 3% dilution HP.
To clean a wound, use a little cotton pad or ball and soak it in HP. Then simply swipe quickly over the wound. Deep wounds should be dealt with by a medical professional, so never hesitate to see a doctor if you cut yourself badly.
HP can whiten and brighten your laundry. It can be used as a substitute for chlorine bleach to whiten your whites. It will also remove stains nicely. Just add one cup (~230ml) of HP to the washing machine to whiten your whites.
Luckily, unlike bleach, it won’t bleach your coloureds. Since HP is an oxygen bleach, it’s more gentle. Add half a cup (~115ml) of HP to your coloured garments to brighten them.
To make a stain remover at home, use 2 parts hydrogen peroxide with 1 part washing up liquid. The washing up liquid will remove grease and dirt, and the HP gets rid of the stain and breaks down any organic materials present on your garment.
If you have a toenail fungus infection or other fungal issues on your footsies, look no further than HP and vinegar! Add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar to a bowl of warm water big enough to soak your feet or foot in. Soak your tootsies for five minutes every other day. On second day, add 1 tablespoon of HP to the water and soak for five minutes. Don’t ever mix them, use them on alternate days only.
If you’re in a hurry, simply try soaking a cotton pad in your 3% HP and dabbing it on the nail. Remember to moisturise the surrounding area straight away, as using HP regularly dries out your skin.
Do this treatment for three weeks and monitor your nail closely for improvements.
Mouth sores and ulcers
Mouth ulcers are caused by a lack of vitamin C, stress, etc., but don’t worry – any soreness or ulcer that occurs in your mouth can be improved with HP. HP is antibacterial, antiseptic, and helps relieve the pain caused by mouth ulcers.
Use a solution of one part 3% HP and 1 part water. Rinse your mouth with the solution, or dip a cotton ball or a cotton bud into the solution then apply it straight onto the ulcer or sore. Don’t swallow any by accident. Do this procedure twice daily until the sore is gone. Don’t eat or drink anything for a little while after the treatment.
To make a tooth whitening paste, mix baking soda and HP into a paste. Apply this paste to the surface of your teeth with a toothbrush or a finger, avoiding your gums. Leave it on for 2 minutes, then rinse with water and brush your teeth with your normal toothpaste (ideally a natural one!)
You can add 3-6 tablespoons of 3% HP to every litre of enema water. It will help to oxygenise your colon, and will kill any bad bacteria floating around up there.
Experts say that the sort of HP you can buy at the chemist isn’t safe enough to use in your body. They recommend making up your own solution. Buy a 35% percent solution and dilute it carefully. It should be pure grade. Then add your 3% solution to your litre of water and perform your enema as normal.
Clean your underarms
Your underarms are the breeding sight of many different types of bacteria, some good and some bad! Spray a little 3% HP on your underarms to kills the bad bacteria for good. It deodorises, disinfects and freshens. Don’t forget to moisturise afterward, as applying HP onto the skin can dry it out.
Got some dirty surfaces you’d like to freshen up? Cutting boards, counters, fridges and dishwashers can all be cleaned with a 1:1 HP and water solution. Pop it on, wait for 10 minutes, then wipe them clean.
