Hair Smoothing Potions to Make at Home

Hair Smoothing Potions to Make at Home

Last update: 01 May, 2015

Women of all ages – from young girls to adults –  who have curly and unmanageable hair struggle every day to style it. Hair smoothing can be so frustrating. Sometimes, women feel that the only option is to pin it back or put it in a ponytail.

Most of us dream of having straight, silky, glossy hair – so much so that we resort to using tools and treatments that end up damaging our hair, drying it to the point of dull lifelessness.

Don’t despair. Research indicates that, apart from genetics (an uncontrollable factor that influences your hair type), the condition of your hair also depends upon the care that take in looking after it. What you do can determine your hair’s appearance. If smoother locks are your goal, here are some recipes to help you achieve it.

Handmade olive oil cream

Ingredients

  • 30 grams of  organic extra virgin olive oil
  • One capsule of jasmine oil
  • 30 grams of ammonia-free conditioner

Directions

Place all of the ingredients in a bowl and mix them until you get a cream with a silky consistency. Apply this mixture before you use your favourite conditioner. Ensure that you generously coat from the middle of the strand to the tip and let it sit for several minutes. Rinse very well, then brush your hair as normal. Do not use a hair dryer.

If you’re going to style your hair, choose a styling cream that doesn’t contain salt. It would dry your hair too much. Your hair will be straight, sleek and manageable if you prevent it from getting too damaged by applying each of these creams.

Handmade coconut cream

Coconut shells

Assemble the following ingredients for this cream:

Ingredients

  • Half a fresh coconut
  • 1 tablespoon of porridge oats (fine)
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup of milk (plant milk – almond, oat, coconut or soya – is best)

Directions

Chuck everything but the cornstarch into a food processor or blender. Liquidise, then strain the mixture. Dissolve the cornstarch in a bit of water and then add it to the blended ingredients. Put it on the stove and stir it continuously until you get a creamy consistency.

Apply the cream and let it penetrate your hair for 25 minutes. When time’s up, wash your hair as usual with a very mild shampoo.

Don’t forget…

Consistency is key! These creams won’t have immediately dramatic effects. If you apply them regularly, they’ll bring gradual and noticeable change. Your hair will look healthier, smoother and less frizzy. Don’t be afraid to use straighteners to control your tresses when you’ve let your hair air dry. Your homemade creams can also help prevent your hair being too dry and unruly.

Remember to use styling tools such as straighteners and hair dryers on lower settings and moderate temperature. High heat can and does damage hair’s cuticles, making it look drab and listless.
