Low-Fat Alternatives to Mayonnaise

Mayonnaise is a delicious dressing that is used all over the globe in many dishes. However, it is high in fat, which means that it is not great for our health.

There are many alternatives to regular mayonnaise. You dont need to be a vegan to use an alternative as you may be looking for a healthier option. If you want to avoid health risks such as obesity and other diseases, consider our natural alternatives to mayonnaise.

Eggless mayonnaise

The benefit of this recipe is that you can heat it up and it won’t harm your stomach. As it doesnt contain any eggs, you can add it to broths or boil it. You will need the following ingredients:

  • a cup of milk
  • olive oil
  • salt

Pour the milk and salt into a blender and start to mix them together. Add the olive oil in little by little until a thick paste forms. Pour the mixture into a glass container and place it in the refrigerator. It can be saved for several days as it will not go bad. You can use this recipe in all dishes and even add flavour to it. You could add sliced onion, garlic or mustard.

Vegan mayonnaise

This vegan recipe can be used in several dishes – like sandwiches – or as a condiment.  You will need:

  • 1 potato
  • 1 carrot
  • lemon juice
  • 3 tablespoons of oil
  • a tablespoon of mustard

Peel, wash and cut the potato and carrot. Boil the potato and squeeze the juice from the lemon. Blend together all the ingredients (including the oil and mustard) until a paste forms. Place the paste in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You can also use raw beetroot instead of potato.

This recipe is made from soy. The ingredients are:

  • 1 cup of sunflower oil
  • 1/4 cup of soy milk
  • half a clove of garlic
  • lemon juice
  • salt

Blend the soy milk, oil and garlic together. Once it’s smooth, turn off the blender so the oil thickens. Add in the lemon juice and mix. Pour into a jar and store. You can use other ingredients, such as beetroot, cooked carrot, mustard or avocado.

Carrot mayonnaise

This is a delicious recipe which needs very little preparation. You will need:

  • 750 grams of carrots
  • 1/4 cup of olive, corn, or sunflower oil
  • a clove of garlic
  • a pinch of salt
  • lemon juice

Peel and cut the carrots, cook them until tender. Leave them to cool and then blend with the remaining ingredients. The result will be an orange paste. You can add more oil if you prefer. This recipe can be stored in a refrigerator for one week but do not freeze as it will lose its flavour.

Light mayonnaise

This natural yogurt mayonnaise is very light and a super simple recipe. You will need”

  • a pot of natural yogurt
  • a few drops of lemon juice
  • a pinch of salt
  • a tablespoon of oil

Pour all the ingredients into a blender and blend them until a creamy paste is formed. Pour it into a container and store in the fridge. You can add other ingredients, such as parsley, pepper or celery for a fresh taste. All these are low in calories.

Hazelnut and pear mayonnaise

This mayonnaise is slightly mild and fruity. It is a very delicious condiment that you can combine with vegetables, sandwiches or salads. The ingredients you will need are:

  • an egg
  • a clove of garlic
  • 100 ml of sunflower oil
  • a large pear
  • 20 hazelnuts
  • salt
  • pepper
  • nutmeg

Peel the pear and hazelnuts. Put them in a blender with the other ingredients until a mayonnaise texture has formed. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste.
